Step into the past.

Walking in our ancestors' footsteps.

Wherever you go in Britain, you're never far from a connection with history. Beyond Stonehenge is dedicated to highlighting the less well known places that still bring history to life.

Welcome to Beyond Stonehenge.

If you've a passion for history and love visiting historic places, this website is for you.

For more years than it's polite to remember, I've liked nothing more than exploring british heritage places. From ancient monuments, to roman villas, from ruined castles to gothic cathedrals, from quiet country churches to grand stately homes and from romantic moated manors to industrial heritage sites, I love them all.

This website is my on-going project - I'm not sure that it will ever be 'complete' - to bring some of our less well know heritage places into the spotlight.

Although Stonehenge is a world heritage site, visited by thousands of people every year, Britain's long and eventful history has left us with so much more to see. This site is dedicated to sharing information about other places history lovers might want to see. In their own ways, each are deeply evocative of the past, places where you can practically taste history in the air.

At Beyond Stonehenge, you'll have a completely personal, independent view of the places I've experienced. Wherever possible, I've given links to official websites so you can check entry details. I've also included other links to places that I've found useful or interesting.

I hope Beyond Stonehenge will provide inspiration and information for anyone who wants to get closer to British history in the places where it actually happened, Whether you're planning to make visits in person or are an armchair visitor, I hope you enjoy exploring here.

This is very much a labour of love, so I'll be adding new entries as I get around the country, so please bookmark this page and come by regularly to see what's new.
